Make something fun from your woollies

Tips and ideas on what to make with your felted woollies

I’m following up from last months post with some ideas and tips for your newly repurposed and felted woollens. These are really lovely materials to work with, they don’t fray, can be cut into fun shapes, have insulting and feel
good
ness qualities!

Here are a few ideas of things to make that require no sewing, just a sharp pair of fabric scissors - Coasters, trivets, pot holders, boot liners, seat mats, etc.

Sewing by hand, try cutting shapes to string together as garlands or hang as ornaments. Sew together shapes as brooches, oven mitts, pot holders, scissor cases, eye glass cases, needle cases, cup warmers, tea cosies.

Tips for hand sewing, use embroidery floss or fine woollen knitting yarn with an embroidery needle for practical stitches and embellishments.

Sewing by machine, any of the hand sewing ideas above can be sewn quickly using straight or zig-zag stitches. Add appliqué or decorative stitch details, couch down fancy yarns using zig-zag stitch, make a cosy pillow or scarf.

Tips for machine sewing, use a larger 90 embroidery or jersey needle in the machine. Regular sewing
thread on top and on the bobbin for practical stitches. A walking foot really helps if you have one. Stitch slowly using larger stitches.

Last year I made an oven mitt and this year I’m making more for my foodie maker bakers as I have found it very handy!

Below I have shared a link to download and print my pattern, enjoy :)

Prints as a 8.5”x 11” sheet.
