Hitting the Pause Button

These past few weeks have been the first time in years that I have totally and whole heartedly relaxed and slowed down at home. I welcomed the excuse of the holidays to hit pause. So often I wouldn’t allow myself to really stop, even traveling I still sketched…

I found myself quite content to potter and catch up on all sorts of things, from podcasts (Selvedge) books (Georgette Heyer and Lucy Worsley) documentaries (historic towns with Dr Alice Roberts) and some Netflix (Schitts Creek).

My favourite thing has been tackling my rather long sewing list.
Making piles of reusable fabric gift bags, cleaning and little facial cloths from new and repurposed cloth.  I finally made the French inspired curtains for our bedroom retreat and reworked an 80’s style top, made in my teens which I’d stashed it all these years because I love the fabric so much.  Plus a pile of mending and alterations for myself and family.

Working with my hands is relaxing and satisfying, even mundane mending I really enjoy, its time well spent.

As is crossing things off my list!  I’m old school, pencil on paper is still my preferred organizational method. Every year I transfer my lists into my new agenda much to the amusement of my tech savvy family. Seeing the end of last year really helped in making priorities and new hopeful intentions.

And now I’m itching to get back into my creative work with a renewed calm and focus. Starting to my daily drawing practice…
