Snip and Tuck - The Trials and Errors of an Embroidery Artist

As a kid my discard pile was quite big, I learnt through process and practice.

Recently, I launched into a larger piece with great enthusiasm, happily stitching away, wrapped up in the process and my ideas.

Then, one morning I looked at the heavily stitched piece and knew instantly that it was not working at all.

I took a deep breathe and some drastic action and started cutting up the embroidery with my big scissors.
I was surprised to be feeling a bit excited by the challenge of figuring out how to turn this piece around. I don’t usually take such extreme measures.

Reimagining the possibilities turned out to be a playful and liberating process as I rebuilt the composition by piecing and re-stitching. Thankfully sometimes textiles can be quite forgiving.
