TWO TUI"S & THE KOWHAI TEACUP 2021
This piece is inspired by the NZ Tui, a beautiful bird with a distinctive feathery plume on its neck, often seen flying around as you walk in the bush. Here, their natural habitat is reimagined as the birds nest within a teacup covered in their favourite Kowhai flowers.

RUE DE CUISINIERS BAYEUX 2020
This work is a stitched drawing made from sketches in Bayeux, Normandy. I love looking at medieval buildings with their aged quirky lines and amazing history. This corner building on Rue de Cuisineirs is an amazing example.
Working with blue and natural white threads onto a white linen, I free stitched the embroidery using my basic domestic sewing machine as my drawing tool.

VITRE RUE D'EN BAS with THREADS 2020
This work is a stitched drawing made from sketches in Vitre, Brittany. I love looking at the medieval buildings with their aged quirky lines and amazing history. For this piece I was inspired to bring all the threads I usually tidy away in the back to the front. The unfinished thread ends create unexpected texture. They interfere and mask some of the stitched lines of the image.

In this embroidery I was inspired by antique Italian lace and my tiny Italian scissors that I use to cut details in fabric and thread. The composition is a mix created from my drawn observations that inspired this decorative ode to historical methods and practices.
