Saskia is a textile artist, making
one-off pieces for interiors. She grew up exposed to many different
cultures wile living in Britain, and travelling the world. Having
gained her BA Hons. Degree in Embroidered and Woven Textiles at
Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, she now lives and works in Toronto,
Canada. Saskia's work evolves from visual diaries she keeps of her
experiences and observations, recording the vibrant colours, textures
and images that inspire her on travels and in daily life.
Using the sewing machine as a drawing tool, Saskia stitches freely
onto luxurious silks, velvets and organzas to create exotic pieces
to enrich and enliven life.
Saskia's work is included in collections across the globe, Australasia,
Japan, Europe and North America. It has been recognised here in
Toronto with the Best Fibre Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition
2002.
